Our season is over, but the mission carries on!
Thank you to everyone who made the 14th season of the Welcome Inn a huge success!
The service we provided this past season was beyond anything we could have anticipated or even hoped. Together, we extended our season by 18 days and 21 overnights to fill the need in our community. We added onsite dental services to our heath care offerings and through partner agencies, nearly 100 people received or pre-qualified for housing while at the Welcome Inn. Together, we improved the lives of 600 people over 83 program days!
The Welcome Inn is searching for a new home.
Throughout our 14 year history, SOCH has worked to fill the needs of our homeless neighbors in as many comprehensive ways as possible. As our program offerings - and the time our doors were open - continued to expand this season, it became too much of a burden for our host, Starr Presbyterian Church. After great soul searching and discernment by their leadership, Starr is not inviting us to return for a 5th season in their facility.
The Welcome Inn now shares the fate of our guests: we are homeless. (Temporarily, not chronically!)
We will be open for a 15th season and beyond! The SOCH Board is actively searching for a new facility to call home. We will continue to serve in south Oakland County, and are in conversation with a number of churches, agencies and realtors who are helping us find a landing spot.
